Something for the long weekend....

This made me cry, smile and totally believe in the power of gratitude! Stay tuned, especially for this line... "Trust me, I am in a lab coat".

Gratitude
Why does gratitude invite happiness?
It opens our hearts
It brings awareness to the good in our lives
It awakens our senses
It aims towards joy and abundance which attracts more in return
Gratitude, true gratitude is a feeling of bliss
It helps us see the light in the darkness
It lifts us out of the dreariness and mundaneness of our lives
And so much more…

The No.1 Exercise you need to be doing in order to get the body you want!

Think about it, the thing that you resist the most is the thing that you need to do the most. So why would exercise be any different?! Take me for example, I utterly detest doing push ups, even the thought of them makes me want to retch, yet deep down I know that that is the No. 1 exercise that I need to be doing in order to be getting the desired body I want. Let me just set this straight, I'm not trying to say it's the absolute only exercise I need to be doing, hell no! I'm more like saying it is the one exercise I need to prioritise and ensure I include in the majority of my workouts. I've noticed how oh so frequently I tend to avoid, make excuses and schedule push ups in for another day. I'll do a gazillion lunges instead of doing 1 push up because I simply cannot stand the uncomfortable feeling of banging out 1 push up, BUT as one amazing friend always tells me 'If it doesn't challenge you it doesn't change you'. And that's exactly what push ups are doing, challenging me and changing me...

Here are 5 ways you can escape resistance on that terrible burpee, push up, (insert dreaded exercise here).....

1// Do it first. Once it's done it's done. You can forget about it until the next workout!

2// Focus on how far you have come and not how far you have to go. Progressed from 20 knee push ups to 1 full push up? Pop the champers and celebrate!

3// Tell yourself you can do it! If you say you can then you can and the more you say you can then the more you can do it! (Enough cans in a sentence?)

4// Make it fun. Alternate it with an exercise you enjoy. Or do it to a song. Every time the Sting says Roxanne drop down and do a push up.

5// Make sure you are clear on your goals. If you know it will help you reach your goals then you will commit to doing it without resistance and hesitation.

Blogosphere love: Positivity Pimp

This is the woman to thank for everything! Without her I wouldn't have taken action and started this site, written my first honest post and continued to pursue my dreams. A month of coaching with Jenn gave me the kick start I needed and I will be forever thankful for her help.
Today's interview is soulful, inspiring and a gorgeous illustration of the amazing person Jenn is!

...............................................................

1. Tell us where you are in your life right now (in your perspective) + what your intention is for the rest of 2013.
Right now I'm in the middle of making some big changes in my life. This was always my intention for 2013; to take myself out of my comfort zone and to push myself to take chances and to stop doing things which do not serve me or make me feel happy. So far I've moved to a new country, found an amazing new home with my boyfriend, and I have been taking courses to develop myself personally and professionally. One thing which I've truly learnt is that when you are making substantial changes to your life you can hit speed bumps and at times you will question everything about what you want. You'll sometimes feel like you're going backwards rather than taking leaps ahead. I've come to affectionately call these times the 'Nurturing Phase'. It's important to allow time to adapt to change and reflect on where you are at. This gives so much clarity to my progression.

My intention for the remainder of 2013 is to bring more value, add more joy, and align myself even more intently with my desires. I see my career taking off in ways I have only dreamt of, and right now they all feel so tangible and real. I'm beyond excited to see how things unfold!

2. What fuels you to do what you do?
A desire to make a difference in some small or big way. Growing up the template of 'go to college, get good grades, get a good job, meet a guy, settle down, marry, have some kids, work tirelessly for 40 years and then retire and start doing the things you love' scared the pants off me. I feared getting to the end of life and being disappointed that I hadn't lived fully. I've always had the desire to do things a bit differently; to have fun, set and reach unimaginable goals, to break the mould and to be the girl that through her own actions inspires other people. It's a bench mark for how I live everyday. I want to help women, who like me, have had struggles and fear and doubt, and I want to help those women blast through the barriers which have been holding them back so they can live the life of their dreams too. That my darling is what fuels me.

3. What is the best advice you have been given?
You know there is so much wisdom and advice out there from great people who have gone before and have tried and tested so many routes to success. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the advice that's out there but my general rule is to take and listen to the advice which resonates with you on a deep level. Listen to the advice that give you goosebumps, makes your hair stand on end or makes your heart beat faster. Listen to the advice that compels you.

Some of the best advice I was given was to surround myself with good people. When people show you who they truly are, believe them. It's not about having a bunch of friends that tell you what you want to hear, but having friends that support you, challenge you, and push you to be the best version of yourself. They're the good folk that you need in your corner.

I also love the advice my Dad gave me. "If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence of having tried before". It's inevitable that not everything will work out or go to plan. Sometimes you'll lose big. The important thing to do is to move forward with unbridled enthusiasm even if you've been knocked down before. It's keeping the faith that everything is unfolding as it should and to remember, the Universe is not telling you that your dreams are not good enough, it might be telling you that it has something a little bigger and better in store. Our job is to keep the faith and trust. Best advice.

4. They say 'You are what you're attracted to'. So tell me who inspires you and why?
I'm really inspired by happy, enthusiastic and passionate people. I find those kind of people contagious and I'm inspired by their energy. That's the kind of person I strive to be too. I gather so much inspiration from seeing entrepreneurial women creating their own lives and proclaiming success on their own terms. It's breathtaking. Their bravery, soul, and moxie all combined is the ultimate in feminine power and I look at those women and think, 'I want a slice of that cake', so everyday when I feel anxious, nervous or fearful I just imagine what Marie, Gabby and Danielle would do. It motivates me and helps me tap into that power too.
I'm also inspired by the written word - books, poetry, songs. I love how words have power and can evoke emotions. That inspires me when I write blog posts or when I journal.
Culture, travel, photography, fashion, music, teaching, coaching... it all blows me away!

5. How do you overcome the inner critic in you?
Acknowledge it. Become aware of it, and recognise and know what it is up to, it's a sneaky character! Shedding light on our inner critic diminishes its power and puts us back in control. You almost have to say 'Listen Missy I know what you're up, and today it ain't working!!'. It's when we listen intently and believe what she's saying then it causes problems. My rule of thumb is this; if I wouldn't say it to my best friend, then I shouldn't say it to myself.

6. DREAM BIG: Where do you want your blog + business to take you?
When I started blogging 18 months ago I never thought Positivity Pimp it would help me discover my passions and life purpose. I never comprehended that it would help me connect with an abundant of like minded souls from all corners of the world, and I never could have guessed the opportunities which would have arose all because I decided to put myself out there in web land.
My hope for my blog and business is that is continues to grow and develop. Two words I focus on when I blog is Freedom and Creativity. I dream of my blog giving me the freedom to pursue coaching and to create a soulful business which will flourish. I dream of creating more diversity in my life to fuel my creative passions. I see myself setting up my own practise and studio one day, hosting retreats, building a school programme, and lately I keep seeing a book in my meditations. The possibilities are endless!

7. How did you come to the healthy path + what does it mean to you?
Like many people I came to this stage by hitting a rock bottom. I was quite young, about 24, which freaked me out quite a bit because for a long time I didn't know what was 'wrong' with me. I had everything that I thought I wanted or should have but my heart and soul was literally screaming at me to walk away. I suffered from depression and my body broke out in stress rashes. I had stomach problems and outbreaks. I was a mess. Eventually I paid head to the constant feeling that there had to be a better way, and that's where my health journey began.
For me being healthy is looking after my mind, body, and spirit. Everything flows into each other: the happy trinity. I think being 'healthy' is not about how many supplements are crammed in your cupboards, or how fancy your gym wear is; being healthy is having a deep rooted loving respect with yourself and honouring all our aspects of your physical, emotional and mental health.

8. How do you give thanks to your body everyday?
I don't buy tabloid magazines or read content which promote unhealthy images of what it means to be 'perfect'. I look after my body by listening to what it really needs. Our bodies have a remarkable way of communicating with us. I fuel it with fresh water and natural foods. I move my body and I adore stretching! I love the feeling of blood rushing around my body. I have a 'pamper sesh' every Thursday and I pay attention to my body. I allow myself to look at my body and the things which my ego would like me to hate, I feel nothing but love for them - my freckles, the shape of my bum, my curves, the one eye that's a little smaller than the other, and my pale skin. It's a practise and a habit which I have learnt, it wasn't always this way, but thinking and feeling this way about my body is a much happier and healthy place.

9. What do you LOVE?
I LOVE life and everything it affords me. I love my partner and best friend Freddie; the most generous, wise and happy soul I know. I love my strong circle or friends and my incredibly supportive family; my brother Philip is my rock. I cannot describe how much love and joy coaching and mentoring gives me. I love conversations, deep laughter, and tight squeezy hugs. I love walking bare foot in the grass and being out in nature. I love the smell of jasmine and mok. I love dining al fresco and I absolutely adore my Mum's Sunday roast dinners!

10. When the going gets tough, how do you keep yourself going?
I get my goals out and write them down every single day. I keep my vision board where I can see it - inside my wardrobe door, on my screen saver, and my laminate copy on the outside of my shower door!! Basically I UP the positive stuff and keep my eye on the goal.  Again, it a conscious, constant practise to keep my head space clear and my heart open. Being negative and down beat doesn't get me very far and it's much easier to deal with the tough times when I'm feeling good. It's not to say that I'm immune to bad days but it's a decision and choice to pick myself up quicker and get back on track.

The power of action

Today I'd like to be honest with you!

I have something I'd like to admit to you...

This isn't going to be easy as I'm sad to say it's been going on for awhile...

I can clearly remember the year it started and the some many years I did take joy in it...

But now it's self destructing and it's time to let go of it!

So here it is, please don't judge me...

I am an inspirational self development addict and this is what it looks like...

A few powerful word poster pins on pinterest sets me on a high until I can't stop and then the next thing it's time for bed and I've achieved nothing.

The latest self help book hits the bookshelf and makes me believe my life will miraculously change once I reach the back page.

A quick glance of a daily post from my favourite blogger ignites a little fire in my belly and a belief that yes life will change today but my mouse gets carried away and I'm onto my next favourite blogger's post and so on and so on until my brain is fried from my laptop radiation.

I gain the best tools and tricks from watching countless TEDx talks then eventually at some ungodly hour I go to bed and all is forgotten.

And the worst is I bookmark, like on facebook and take notes for one day just in case I experience another low I can come back for an easy quick hit.

But for the last year I have questioned these books, posts, articles and youtube videos. I've screamed for answers as to why they seem to be making me feel empty inside instead of 'self developed' and why at the end of the day I lie in bed and feel like something is missing!

And then finally, ever so softly, the answer became clear...

Take Action!

What happens is we can spend countless hours reading about how to attract more money, be in a better relationship, have the best blog, write the best articles, start a business, loose weight, get fit etc etc etc. But if at the end of the day we haven't taken action on what we have read then what is the point?

If we apply the inspiration we read it will last forever.

The key is to start, not when we feel we are ready or when we are thin or rich or have energy. It's now, we need to take a step, any step, just move one foot forward. If the inspiration article says write then do exactly that, not the whole book just the first paragraph. Once you've done the first paragraph it will put you in a state of flow and inspiration will follow. It doesn't have to be perfect, action just needs to be taken.

You need to realise that you don't need that pin or blog post to inspire you, what you need is to know what you want and take action. Once you take action things will fall into place, opportunities will show up and people will help you in ways you have never expected.

Leave your ego at the door when you take action. Your first step as a little kid wasn't perfect so why, when you attempt something new, would it be perfect? Trying to be perfect shouldn't cripple you, it should inspire you to keep on trying and taking action until you are perfect.

Taking action will help you determine your strengthens and develop new skills. It will take you to magical places you would only be dreaming about if you were still sifting through the never ending development posts.

And lastly consistent action is the medicine to overcome any worry or stress you have in your life. For me there are countless hours and days I spend worrying about not being successful but instead of taking action on the necessary steps to being a great success I idle away my time on facebook, pinterest and zite!

So action to me looks like this....

  • Writing a blog post everyday this week even through the facebook fog.
  • Sitting in meditation for 10 minutes each day
  • Swiping one of Fitness Blenders workouts and banging it out everyday this week
  • Limiting myself to only 1 hour of laptop, ipad and reading material a day
  • Buying my kettlebells
  • Starting my ebook (not sure where + on what but like I said the first paragraph is a good start)

Tell me beautiful, what does action look like to you this week?

Click Happy Series Part 2: Sweat it out

Last week the Click Happy Series was born and I shared with you all the rad blogging bookmarks I'd stored up. This week I'm sharing some very sweaty links to help you get the best possible workout! Enjoy!

1// Spark People - The 13 Best Yoga Poses for Runners
Honestly tell me do you stretch after your run? If it's a no then that's very naughty of you! This blog post is one of the best stretching routines I've found out there. I especially love the cow-faced fold. Great if you are suffering from sciatic nerve as it stretches out the piriformis muscle.

2// Tribe Sports - The weekly challenge core workout
I found this site ages ago and frequently check in to see what new challenges everyone is up too. It's like the facebook for fitness. Highly motivational and encouraging! There is a trible for every kinda goal you can think of.

3// Strong Inside Out - Dump your diet
Written by the straight talking Joel Runyon (Mr. Impossible), it's a framework to eating right with the Paleo diet. If you haven't clicked onto Joel's site then best you do that too because it is also a winner!

4// The 12 minute athlete - How to assess your fitness levels
I totally love this woman and her workouts! I so agree with her ethos of training, no gym required and only 12 - 20 minutes. I mean seriously who wants to spend their whole day in the gym?

5// The dailyhitt
A fabulous source of inspiration to keep you training your hardest. Lisa's energy will make you want to grab an old back pack fill it with rocks and pump out a gazillion squats.

6// Fitness Blender
I discovered this yesterday and was totally click happy! Full length videos and descriptions at the bottom. Who says you need to pay gym fees to get into shape?!

7// Bodyrock.tv
Old time favie, been a fan for well over 3 years now and keep on coming back for more. I am so happy that Frederick is posting again. Yay!

Do you have any favourite exercise blogs that you'd like to share with me? If so please leave them in the comments below.

My year so far....

Inspired by this fantabulous post, by the gorgeous Keri B of Midlands Musing, I've decided to follow suit and do a little recap on the last seven months of 2013 because it's all to easy to forget how far we've come and what we have achieved. These last seven months have been quite something and I really, really don't want them to be forgotten!

This here is my recap.....

  • 'We're going to Hollywood!' Yup that's was us in January, our 2 week road trip of the West Coast of America included LA, Vegas, The Grand Canyon and San Francisco. Loved, Loved, Loved it! Most especially LA and would live there in a heartbeat.
  • Rang in the new year with one 2 many cocktails and a massive seafood platter at the Lobster on Santa Monica Pier.
  • Ate the most amazing sea food at Paradise Cove Beach Cafe in Malibu
  • Ate, ate and ate the most delicious chilli dogs at Pinks in LA
  • In February I quit my job and made the announcement that I would be moving back to South Africa FOR GOOD.
  • March was a world wind of packing, organising and stressing over the move and the most crazy leaving party!
  • April 1st came and I was on a plane heading back to the most beautiful country in the world (yup I am biased!)
  • April was a blissful month of playing with my niece and nephew and enjoying family time with my sister, brother and mother.
  • In May we moved into our first house together in Howick. It was a mad week of shopping for curtains, couches, bedding, kitchen utensils etc. And it made me realise how much it sucks growing up and having resposibilities.
  • It was party time again in June at the Beer fest in Durban. 9 of us hopped into a proper taxi with
strobe lights + blaring music + lots of booze. What a cray cray night!
  • I discovered the beauty of trail running and even did my first race in June. Concentrating on where your foot goes next makes you forget about how tired you. Simply brilliant!
  • I started working at the Contours express ladies gym in Howick and have been blessed to meet such gorgeous women.
  • I attempted a juice fast, which epically failed on day 3! I blame the devil on my shoulder who kept tempting me with a delicious peri peri flattie on the braai.
  • Blogging has taken on a whole new meaning for me this year, I'm more involved and taking more action. I'm so excited for the future of my blog and really feel like it is going to take me places!
  • Networking gave me the opportunity to finally utilise my web design skills and my creativty has been set free on a friends website. It's going live soon and I'll definitely be sharing it with you!
  • Engrossed myself in a free copy of Denise D's Get Rich Lucky Bitch book. I love it when writers are upfront and there is no B.S in how they became successful.
  • Discovered the calm.com application and now have some awesome background music for my meditations
  • Took the plunge and signed up for B-School, Marie Forleo you are one awesome chick! Marketing is my new favourite subject.
  • Said YES to a pamper day at Indigo Fields with my sister and her friends. Totes amaze balls! Def. going back again soon soon!
  • Went riding on my boyfriends quads and found the most awesome viewing point of Howick. (See below)
  • Bought my first car, yup that's right. It has a few granny dings in it but I love it! Driving is so much better than the disgusting tube.
  • Spent my last precious hours in London giggling and crying over my friend Lee's Malawi photos. We both agreed that life in Africa is so cherished and the people that live on this continent are so grateful for the little they have!
  • Got an awesome cosy pair of sheep skin slippers from my sister for my birthday
  • Eventually my Wimbledon dream came true! Andy Murray thank you, I always knew you could do it!
  • Bastille brought sweet music to my ears. Pompeii will always hold special memories for me!
  • Took our first hike one hung over Sunday at Giants castle then induldged in some very messy and delicious prawns at the Corner Post.
  • Opened our London boxes and danced around our living room like it was Christmas. I have never missed my juicer so much! 8 weeks without it, oh so depressing!
  • Realised how great a friend I have in Andrea, miss her everyday but I am so grateful that a Cape Town adventure is on the horizon, I just know its going to rock!
  • Discovered the most amazing breakfast in London at Bills
  • Ate the most delicious fish and chips on our Scotland Road trip. Proper fresh and in newspaper!
  • Became a model, well kinda. Struck a few poses for my friends pyjama company.
  • Made my first nappy cake
  • Was pleasantly surprised on Valentines day with an Orchid, cupcakes, sushi and breakfast in bed.
  • And lastly we made our first poetjie together and it was to die for!
