Today’s post is a follow on from yesterday’s easy guide on how to purchase your domain name and hosting. As mentioned yesterday I feel many shy away from WordPress.org because they think it is too technical for them but today I’m here to show you that it really isn’t! This tutorial will show you how to install WordPress using the Afrihost cPanel.
Ok let’s start…
Step 1: So after you’ve purchased your domain name and hosting you will have received a lovely welcome email from your host providers which would have included your Control Panel or cPanel details. It may be a good idea to use my free ‘What’s my login?’ printable to keep record of all your website’s passwords.
Step 2: With the details provided login into your cPanel. The control panel URL will look something like this http://mail.yoursitename.co.za/
Step 3: Once logged in you will be taken to your Client Zone homepage, now click on ‘Hosting’.
Step 4: Once you’ve clicked on Hosting you will then see a list of the domain names you have. Click on the one you would like WordPress.org to be installed onto.
Step 5: Click on ‘Control Panel’
Step 6: Click on ‘Log into cPanel’
Step 7: Your control panel will then open up in a new window and you will want to look for and click on ‘Softaculous’
Step 8: Click on ‘WordPress’
Step 9: Click on ‘Install’
Step 10: Insert, amend and remove the following as highlighted in the image below…
Remove wp from ‘In Directory’ – this is important to do as you don’t want your site to be www.yoursitename.co.za/wp
Change the ‘Site Name’ to the desired site name you’d like
Change the ‘Site Description’ to a description you would like for your site
Change the ‘Admin password’ to a secure password you can remember
Change the ‘Admin Email’ to where you’d like admin notifications to be emailed too.
Insert an email address you’d like the installation details and passwords to be sent too.
Step 11: Click Install
Step 12: Once you are done the following details will come up…
Step 13: To login to your WordPress admin area type in www.yoursitename.co.za/wp-admin and use the admin login details you choose.
